Student Council

La Jolla Student Council

Student council is a student led organization intended to build La Jolla school spirit. Its primary focus is to encourage a sense of pride and ownership in our school. Activities are designed to include students from all grade levels. Ideas for these school wide activities come from the students themselves, through student council representatives. Each 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade class elects 2 representatives who attend bimonthly meetings. Meetings are held during lunch. Student council advisors are Mrs. Ciasullo, Mrs. Harvell, and Mrs. Parker.

The purpose of the student council is:
  • To maintain communication between school administration and students
  • To give students an opportunity to be heard in decision-making
  • To give students a voice for ideas related to school improvement
  • To give back through participation in service projects
  • To be involved and learn leadership skills
  • To show a pride and commitment to their school and community
  • To give all students experience with democracy in action

Student Council Officers & Elections

Fifth grade students serve as student council officers. Each fifth grade class nominates candidates for president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and historian. Candidates make a speech on La Jolla TV and participate in elections. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students register and vote for their favorite candidates. This year’s elections were held September 17, 2008. Congratulations to the following students who were elected to serve as student council officers:
